This is such a Great Piece of History Art & Mystery as it feels like you are a part of something Way Bigger than Ourselves in ones life, which we are. While holding you know that those Awarded these were full of Chivalry Courage Loyalty & Honor. Much like to me in the realm of The Knights Templar & The Knights Of The Round Table & King Arthur.
But that's just me.
On The Subject Of The "Great
Emperor" The "President" The"King Franz Joseph" & The "Monarch" there is much to be said
and lots can be found. Here is just a little from Wikipedia I think but there is much more of this Great Man who gave these Remarkable Medals that he found most deserving:

I can say that this Item Is In Good Condition even as it is missing 2 letters on the end and a tiny piece of chain on face right. Some of the Deep Red Guilloche Enamel is worn away in the Bars or Beams of the Cross. This could be restored if one wanted & I probably would or maybe even remove the rest of what is there and have only Gold where the Red Enamel is housed as the Gold Itself is Textured and Unique thus given when Enameled The Art Form of Guilloche Enamel.
There is a Secret Compartment under the numerals 1849 in the center of one side. It snaps closed tight but a tiny hinge could be repaired enabling it to be opened without the need to fully remove the Door or Cap to the Secret Chamber. The Original tiny hinge part was made exactly like the Gold Flaps on the back of the door,just a little longer to wrap around the top hinge. It stretched and a piece broke away possibly from being opened and
closed a lot. It is a very soft, close to pure gold. It is truly amazing to see the actual construction that went into each of these hand made & pain staking details in each individual medal..
This piece of
Antiquity that must be handled with Respect.
Have recently been informed that if one wanted to restore the restoration costs would be around 0.00

The dimensions of this medal are as follows: 3 Inches Tall & right at 1 1/2 Inches Wide.
