HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
ROUYER - X. FEES NUREMBERG
Nicolas - Joseph - Jules Rouyer (1820-1898) in 1897 bequeathed his collection of coins and méreaux Medals Department of the National Library of France. His desire to keep his collection intact and the environment to let complete, accessible and useful to his fellow citizens seem the first patterns of this legacy. The collection started in 1840 and gives his first article Rouyer numismatics Journal in 1844. Over half a century later, the legacy includes, among others, in 1860 tokens and méreaux Middle Ages. In 1899, the collection is classified and indexed, and published by Henri de La Tour in two volumes. The first volume, which contains the 1860 chips and méreaux Middle Ages, the most interesting according Rouyer, was reissued in 2000 and currently remains an indispensable source for these monuments of the past.
