Up for your consideration is a set of two reproduction CALIBER .30 M2 Ball 20 round ammunition cartons with a ST. LOUIS ORDNANCE PLANT label.
The .30-06 cartridge, first developed in 1906, was the official U.S. rifle and light machine gun cartridge in both World Wars and Korea, with combat use finally ending in the 1960s. The huge quantities of ammunition required for World War 2 dramatically reflected the impact on warfare of rapid-fire weapons like the machine gun and semi-automatic rifle. Total small arms ammunition production from 1940-1945 exceeded 41.7 billion rounds, and of that total the Caliber .30 round accounted for 25 billion rounds in all loadings. During the 1930s Frankford was the only plant in the U.S. producing military small arms ammunition. Beginning in 1939, small orders were placed with Remington Arms and Western Cartridge for military cartridges, paving the way for future expansion. In 1940, with war under way in Europe, sites were selected for the first 3 government-owned, contractor-operated small arms ammunition plants, one of which was in St. Louis, Missouri. The St. Louis Ordnance Plant, operated by the U. S. Cartridge Company, a subsidiary of Western Cartridge Company, was the largest of the small arms ammunition production facilities built during WW2. The site was selected in January 1941, with the first finished rounds accepted by the Ordnance Department on the day after Pearl Harbor. During the next four years it turned out over 7 billion rounds, including ball, armor-piercing, tracer, and incendiary types, making it the world's largest producer of .30 caliber and .50 caliber ammunition. Small arms manufacturing at St. Louis was terminated by the government as of September 1, 1945.
Each "Buy It Now" single purchase is for 2 unassembled cartons with dividers and labels. The St. Louis Ordnance Plant label has the unique WW2 red stripe, which identified the contents as Ball ammunition, and a printed lot number matching my original. The cartons, dividers, and labels will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions, and the shipping is free within the U.S. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the auction quantity before you click the "Buy It Now" button.
Check my feedback and buy with confidence. I prefer paypal, and shipping is free to U.S. buyers. I will ship world-wide, with the buyer paying all shipping charges. Those charges will be added by eBay during the checkout process. Payment is expected within 3 days of purchase. Returns are accepted within 14 days, with buyer paying return shipping. If you have a lot number preference, please send details in the checkout instructions, or send me a separate email.
I also have separate "Buy It Now" listings for M1 Carbine cartons (set "A" and "B"), M1911 .45 ACP cartons (50 round and 20 round), 12 GA cartons, .30 caliber Ball cartons (5 different plants), .30 caliber Armor Piercing cartons (3 different plants), .30 caliber Tracer cartons (2 different plants), .30 caliber Incendiary cartons, .30 caliber Frangible cartons (2 different plants), .30 caliber Rifle Grenade cartons, .30 caliber Bandoleer Lot Cards, .30 caliber Repacked Lot Data Cards (for belted ammo), and a .30 caliber mixed carton display set. All of these listings can be viewed by clicking on the "See other items" link located just below my seller info. at the top of this listing.
Thanks for looking, and I appreciate your business.
*NOTE TO EBAY - THESE BOXES ARE EMPTY AND DO NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED AMMUNITION COMPONENTS*
